So I remember reading about how Squaresoft forced Tetsuya Takahashi to make changes to Xenogears that he was unhappy with, but I've never heard any specifics about what was changed from the original vision. I've made my own observations though.
One thing I noticed was that the Zohar in Xenogears has an eye on it whereas in Xenosaga it has an Aleph, the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This made me wonder if perhaps Squaresoft wasn't comfortable with all of the Jewish symbolism in the game. (sounds like a good topic for another thread)
Another somewhat obvious change is where the budget ran out. Disk two is almost entirely sit-and-watch-the-story-happen, boss fight, sit-and-watch-the-story-happen, boss fight, sit-and-watch-the-story-happen-for-a-freaking-hour, wander a little, boss fight, rinse, repeat. I wonder how much more of a game we'd have gotten if Square hadn't said "alright, enough, wrap it up, let's just publish the damn thing."
Anyone notice anything else that seems like Square putting its hands into the mix where it wasn't wanted?

Re: Xenogears corruptions?
Thu, February 17, 2005 - 8:15 PMThe marketing of game wasn't as strong as Final Fanatsy 7. This game so fun playing but thing was strange in game when went to fighting game instead of turn base fighting in tourment battle when Fei faces off with Rico. Thing would been cool if Squaresoft made squels as fast became popular. -

Re: Xenogears corruptions?
Fri, February 18, 2005 - 4:04 AMMini games where the entire style of gameplay aren't all that unusual in squaresoft games or in RPGs alltogether. As for sequels, well that's where Xenosaga comes in, though technically those are prequels. If you didn't already know, Xenogears is part FIVE of the Xenosaga series. Even though I LOVE Square games, I'm happy that Namco is now publishing the games, because it seems like they're actually letting the game creators do what they want with it rather than forcing unwanted changes on them.
