Did anyone else get the Episode I DVD when preordering Episode II? I've watched the first 2/3 of it and it SEEMS to me like a lot was edited out. I can't figure out why they would do that. They left out everything that happened with Kos-Mos before her actually "awakening." They left out the entire introduction to the Realians. They left out everything about how Shion and Kos-Mos got onto Chaos's ship (which includes Chaos's introduction). I just wonder what the thought process behind that was. If they're going to give us a DVD of all the cinematics, why not give us ALL the cinematics, ya know?
Maybe they were tyring to make it a more cohesive movie-like story-line for people who hadn't actually played the game, but if that was their goal, I don't think it worked. I definitely felt like a lot was missing and when watching it with someone who had NOT played the game, I found myself often explaining what was going on or what important event we had just missed.
Yes, it would be even LONGER, but so what? That's why it's broken into chapters. Maybe the problem was disk space? This stuff takes up a LOT more room as a DVD than it did as a video game since in the game most of the scenes were rendered on the fly, but as a DVD they all have to be pre-rendered. I suppose if they had included EVERYTHING it would have taken up two disks, but so what? I personally would have gladly PAID for a copy of the ENTIRE Episode I story on DVD.

Re: Xenosaga Episode I Movie DVD
Thu, February 24, 2005 - 6:36 AMSo I've been instructed by the oh so powerful moderator to post my thoughts on the DVD.
I have never played any of the Xeno games. But I sat with the Elf for over 2 hours watching the Episode I DVD.
I didn't really understand anything that was going on. Some guy named Kevin was worried about this machine chick waking up... & then when she did he was no where to be found... & I don't think he's shown up yet. The shirt girl with the glasses JUST mentioned his name recently when Kos Mos sucked the enemy into her uterus. Elfie has a better name for it, but I'll let him tell you. He might be waiting for a patent, so I won't disclose it.
So... while we were watching, Elfie often felt the need to explain what was going on, which leads me to believe that the DVD was no meant for people who had never played the games. Because it didn't flow well enough for me to follow it.
There... happy now? -

Re: Xenosaga Episode I Movie DVD
Thu, March 3, 2005 - 6:31 AMYeah I have absolutely no idea what happened. I thought I was following along... briefly... but yeah, no clue. That was pretty choppy, I think that was only for people whom have played the game.
Though I think I started to doze off near the end. In fact I'm sure of it. So that also contributes to why I didn't follow it. But not entirely. -

Re: Xenosaga Episode I Movie DVD
Thu, March 3, 2005 - 6:56 AMYeah I agree that it was probably only a good recap for people who had played the game... which is unfortunate. It would have made a lot more sense if they had included ALL of the cinematics and had actually cut it into watchable segments. They have the whole Chapter 1, 2, and 3 thing, but it doesn't STOP playing at the end of a chapter, so you don't really know when to take a break. Plus of course... it's a video game... so you'll get this huge build up for a fight and then a moment later the fight will be over... without ever seeing the fight. It makes it a little difficult. What I would like to see is a more produced version of this when they actually include the ENTIRE story and add in some brief scenes to fill in the blanks (like boss fights or whatever). Of course I guess if someone really wanted the full experience and knowledge of the story, they should just play the game, huh? ....... Tired of playing FMA yet? ;) -

Re: Xenosaga Episode I Movie DVD
Thu, March 3, 2005 - 7:14 AMHa! You still have to watch me beat FMA.
You want me to play Xenosaga? Are the menus going to make my head explode? -

Re: Xenosaga Episode I Movie DVD
Thu, March 3, 2005 - 7:43 AMOkay, yes, I want to see you beat FMA. And yeah, it'd be neat if you played Xenosaga, but you should only play whatever games actually interest you. It's been a while since I played Xenosaga, so I don't really remember how complicated the menu system is. They usually do a good job of explaining how everything works IN the game, but you could always just look through the manual and decide if it's crazy complicated or not.
